High Efficiency Air Cleaner Airborne pollutants like pollen, dust, pet hair, dander, dust mites, tobacco smoke, and spores can damage your draperies, upholstery, and even your furnace and air conditioning equipment. And, as allergy sufferers know, even traces can trigger miserable reactions. Most homes use ordinary throwaway furnace filters to clean the air, capturing only about 5-15% of polluting particles. Since Aprilaire has no moving parts, it is virtually maintenance free and it has a lifetime limited warranty. Aprilaire Air Cleaner Benefits Include:

Insulation Are your energy bills consistently larger than a friend or neighbor who has a similar size home and a similar heating and cooling system? The chances are that your cooled or heated air is escaping from your home because you do not have the proper amount of insulation. Properly insulating your home could save you big dollars in your annual cooling and heating costs. |

| Repair or Replace--Is It Time? | ||
| Every
time we enter a new season, a major concern arises. Is our heating or
cooling equipment in good shape? Will it keep us comfortable throughout
the season? Or, is it time to call on an expert to consider replacement
or repair? Deciding when to replace an old heating and cooling system is not easy. Unless your present system is old and in very poor working condition, it may be hard to justify a new high efficiency system on energy savings alone. The most important information comes from your service contractor. If your system is over six years old, you may want to consider a new unit. Especially if you have a large home with high heating and cooling load, the annual dollar savings from installing a new system may pay for itself in a short time. |
||
| How To Determine Efficiency | ||
| How
do you know the efficiency of your current system? If you own an old
pilot-type furnace or an air conditioner that was made before the 1990s,
most likely the equipment is not considered efficient by today's
standards. To determine efficiency, a call to your dealer with the model
number of your unit in hand should give you that information. If your
model is not rated, a visual inspection by your dealer will give you the
probable efficiency. |
||
| Should You Consider Replacing Parts? | ||
| You
should understand that replacing parts in an inefficient air conditioner
or heat pump will not make it efficient! This solution, while often the
less costly one, will leave you with a running unit, but one which will
most likely cost you more in monthly utility bills. For example, if your heat pump or air conditioning system loses capacity or if the compressor fails completely, you may want to take the opportunity to move up to a high efficiency heat pump system rather than just replace the old compressor, Often a failed compressor is just the first of many component failures that may end up costing you more in the long run. Finally, in making your decision to repair or to replace your old unit, consider how many more years you expect to be living in your present home (planning to move soon?), the overall condition of your unit (is it likely to break down again?) and the number of expected hours of use (are they predicting particularly severe weather this season?). Planning ahead with the advice of your dealer or contractor will avoid surprises no matter what season you're about to prepare for. |
